Glasgow in 2024 Supports Black Lives Matter and Trans Lives Matter

Quote from Tade Thompson, Rosewater. The full quote is at the bottom of the blog post.

In the last few months we have seen extraordinary changes in the world around us. However, further change is needed, necessary, and overdue. For Glasgow in 2024, we believe that Black Lives Matter. We believe that trans women are women, trans men are men, non-binary and genderqueer people are non-binary and genderqueer respectively.

Our mission for the Glasgow in 2024 Worldcon Bid has always been one of inclusion and celebration, and to create ‘A Worldcon for all our Futures’; however we are still a predominantly white, privileged community. As we develop our bid, we must remember this, and hold ourselves accountable. We must do better. We must listen. We must take action, and we must make changes. No one can do this for us and no one should do this for us. To this end we will be reaching out to groups in Glasgow and beyond to discuss how we can continue to become the allies we wish to be, particularly in promotional and outreach events, the institutional infrastructure of the bid, and, if we become seated, the Worldcon itself.

The full quote from Tade Thompson, as shown in the header image is: “The idea of a singular hero and a manifest destiny just makes us all lazy. There is no destiny. There is choice, there is action, and any other narrative perpetuates a myth that someone else out there will fix our problems with a magic sword and a blessing from the gods.” ― Tade Thompson, Rosewater
