Call for Papers: The History of Scotland

Deadline: 30th January 2024

The 82nd World Science Fiction Convention will be held in Glasgow, August 8th-12th 2024 calls for papers on the History of Scotland

The World Science Fiction Convention is in its 82nd year and is returning to Glasgow for the third time.  The Worldcons have a long tradition of non-SF, factual programming in science and in history. Talks by experts are often packed out. This year we would like to introduce our members, many of whom are writers, to the history of Scotland. This is a chance to reach a curious, fascinated non-academic audience with your research.

We are delighted to be announcing this call for papers in collaboration with History Scotland.

The History of Scotland track at the World Science Fiction Convention welcomes abstracts on:

  • Scotland at home (workers history, urban/rural, gender, industries, politics etc)
  • Local histories; local people of note
  • Histories of Science and Medicine
  • Contributions on the Scottish Enlightenment or history of medicine and science contributions
  • Scotland in the world (trade, imperialism, colonisation, slavery, cultural influence)

Presenters must have at least a day membership to the convention (day tickets will be released 1st March 2024).

Presenters may of course additionally fill in the programme form for the main convention, but it will be handled separately.
