Art Show – Mary Prince

Although I worked as a computer programmer, there was always room for art.  After dabbling in many things, I have settled in with a sketchbook and watercolors.

My first sales were at art shows at conventions in the US (mostly Wiscon in Madison Wisconsin), and Worldcons in Canada, UK and Japan.  More conventional outlets include showing with local art groups, and joining in with an Urban Sketcher group. I attended the Glasgow Worldcon in 2005 and did sketches and paintings based on my photos.

In the last 10 years I’ve been doing more conventional painting, but have also been doing maker workshops at steampunk conventions and Chicon 8 in 2022.  This spring I learned about ‘Circular Gallifreyan’ writing and created a mini-book about it.

For 2024, I will be bringing small works/kits for the print shop, involving mini-books with stickers and other goodies.

I was inspired by Hugo short story nominee “Better Living Through Algorithms” which features people unplugging and going out to sketch.

My kits for sale include: “Labyrinth” movie mini-book & prints; “Circular Gallifreyan” mini-book with stencil and pencil for you to try this writing; Steampunk pocket bag with materials for 2 games; “How to make a Mini-Book” kit; and a small sketchbook, pencils, and set of postcards from my paintings from 2005.

On Saturday I will have a workshop for creating mini-books, simple enough for Children’s Programming.
